Mount Vernon AME Church made Preservation Texas 2015 Most Endangered places list, efforts have been moving forward to change that! It was doubtful the structure would survive through the winter. Mark has been working with the Church committee, engineers and contractors to develop an affordable temporary shoring plan utilizing steel scaffolding.

The scaffolding has been constructed inside the building and now is supplementing the over stressed walls. Even with pews moved out, scaffolding in place, dust filling the air; early morning sunlight through the stain glass windows is a reminder that this place is worth saving.

This Church was dedicated in 1921 and is the third oldest AME Church in Texas. It is designated as a Recorded Texas Historical Landmark (RTHL) and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NR).
